- Purpose:
The purpose of Day One® is to provide immediate access to safety for
domestic violence
victims and their children.
Day One® was created to break down the barriers domestic violence
victims face on
"Day One" -
the first 24 hours after being hit or hurt, a time when a survivor
is making every effort to save
themselves and the lives of their children.
1)
Make the Call: Wherever you are in Minnesota, you can call the Day One®
Minnesota Domestic
Violence Crisis Line 1-866-223-1111 anytime, day or night. You will be
connected to a domestic violence program near you.
2) Tell Your Story: While on the telephone, you will only have to
explain your story one time, to one advocate. The advocate will listen
to you and help you make a plan to keep yourself and your family safe.
3) Get to a Safe Place: If you decide to go to a shelter or
safe home, an advocate will help you get there. You will get a warm bed,
comfort and someone to talk to.
