Asian Women United of Minnesota (AWUM)

Asian Women United of Minnesota (AWUM) is made up of women and men who believe in every woman’s right to a life of peace, wholeness, and happiness. That includes a life free from emotional, physical, verbal or sexual abuse.

AWUM’s programs and expertise focus on Asian women and girls, but their mission includes all domestic violence victims. AWUM’s House of Peace (HOP) Shelter offers safe shelter for women and their children dealing with domestic violence. Their rooms are private and pleasant, and the surroundings are supportive. It is a completely secure shelter, with around-the-clock security. While there, women receive ongoing, confidential support and care.

When a woman leaves HOP, AWUM continues to offer support, legal help, financial assistance, and more. Moreover, their Community Advocacy Program (CAP) supports women and their children out in the community, and includes violence prevention training. They help women with safety planning, assistance with immigration issues, courtroom advocacy, and getting Orders For Protection (OFP) and Harassment Restraining Orders (HRO). CAP also conducts presentations and educational training to raise awareness about domestic violence.
